May 16, 1962 – KC @ CLE – Two outs, bottom of the 9th, runner on 3rd, trailing by one. Indians catcher John Romano faced this situation when he came to the plate. So, he did what any player would do in his shoes: He hit a home run. Cleveland pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in a 10-9 game.

May 16, 1959 – The Indians participate in the trade involving two of the greatest-named players ever. The Tribe sent Humberto Robinson to the Phillies for infielder Granny Hamner.

May 16, 1939 – CLE @ PHA – The Indians face off against the Philadelphia Athletics in the American League’s first night game. Cleveland was the victor, 8-3, in ten innings.

May 16, 1902 – The Indians sign outfielder and future Hall-of-Famer Elmer Flick. Flick would lead the league in batting average in 1905, and is one of 158 players to hit 100 triples in his career (he finished with 164, tied with George Sisler and Pie Traynor for 30th on the all-time list).
